According to the U.N. Environment Program, environmental sustainability involves making life choices that ensure an equal, if not better, way of life for future generations.
In 1987, the universally accepted and famous sustainability definition provided by the ‘Brundtland Commission’ in our ‘Common Future’ was released:
‘Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.’
As the world faces pressing environmental challenges, the youth of today find themselves at the forefront of a global movement for change. With a deep concern for the future of our planet, young people are raising their voices, demanding action, and actively working towards achieving environmental sustainability.
There are three main pillars that govern sustainability. Which are
• Social equality
• Economical viability
• Environmental protection
When these pillars are maintained and taken care of environmental sustainability is possible.
The social equality is very important need to have environmental sustainability as humans have control over resources and if social equality is maintained over use of resources is avoidable.
Economical viability and financial stability of community and individuals ensures better lifestyle with vigilance towards environment issues.
The environmental protection includes saving the natural resources is saved.
Environmental sustainability starts from individual level by doing small things big changes are possible
For instance not overbuying anything, not wasting food and other resources, not using single use platics etc
Important steps should be taken to maintain the environment for future generations and for the well-being of our planet Earth.
As an american proverb says , "We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
